Overcoming through Faith

You may be asking, “Huh? What in the world is ‘overcoming through faith’? Is this even possible? Is that Biblical?” For the answers, read on. First, notice these three important verses of Scripture:

I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. (John 16:33)

You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. (1 John 4:4)

…for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. (1 John 5:4-5)

Because Jesus has overcome the world, we have overcome the world also. The “catch” or condition, however, is a familiar one: we must first have faith that we already have the victory.

If we will not believe that through Christ we have overcome the world along with its turmoil and sinful temptations, we never see full victory in our lives. With this subject as with everything else in the Bible, we must…

  1. Believe the Scripture’s promises,
  2. Proclaim our belief out loud with our lips,
  3. Act on our belief through faith,
  4. Repent when we mess up but continue proclaiming victory anyway because Scripture says so.

This is a powerful method for overcoming sin and temptation that rapidly yields dramatic results. When done in this manner, you will gain victories over strongholds in your life, victories that you may have been fruitlessly seeking for years until now.

My Fellow Believers in Christ, in the area of overcoming—as with everything else in the Bible—your faith is powerful and will move the heart of God mightily on your behalf. Don’t try or hope you can overcome. Instead, believe that you have overcome and then speak the promise aloud in Jesus’ Name, and you will overcome as you continue to speak it in faith! Your faith spoken aloud for all to hear precedes your victory.

Go forth and be victorious today in the mighty Name of Jesus!
